Day 32

Image
Visited the big cereal bowl. As it was pouring rain, I didn't get to see all the outside stuff. Frig it.... heading for home. Almost got cleaned up by a car wanting to change lanes over my bonnet. Bren got a collision alert on his phone... yeah, about that! Took some nasty rugged back roads from Forbes and ended up in Cootamundra.

Day 31

Zoo day... 16,000 steps later. Baby big arse turtles

Day 30

Day 30! Oops, forgot to go home 😂 Another sunny but cold breeze day, headed towards Dubbo geocaching along the way. In Gilgandra, a geocaching trail took me around town and learn about the Coo-ee Recruitment March in 1915. Arrived into Dubbo early afternoon.  Just to tick me right off, there was another failure on the camper. This time the fridge slide runner decided it had had enough 😡 ..... then Mr Whippy came around the park

Day 29

Wandered down the road to Coonamble. No geocaches to find here. Went for a drive around town, numerous shops closed and boarded up. Drove past the bowling club, they were advertising a meat tray raffle tonight... done! Don't need to tell me twice. Yup, that's inches of pigeon shit on the floors. The club is packed! Well, it is the only place to go in town.

Day 28

We had a whole day to explore Lightning Ridge. I decided to head out of town to the Grawin Opal Fields. So glad we did, it was great. There's 3 pubs out there, all super quirky in they're own way.  We had lunch at the Glengarry Hilton, which was one of the better meals we've had on this part of the trip. We then bashed around looking for geocaches, unfortunately there was 1 I just couldn't figure out how to get into. A rabbit warren of tracks is an understatement.  Once back in town I scooted around and found more geocaches, and had a good giggle at "Stanley"... We went out to the Australian Opal Centre "Spark", a cinematic presentation. I thought it was going to be about the history of opal hunting in Lightning Ridge but it was more of an arty farty presentation, not for me. Time to continue south to artic Victoria.

Day 26

As much as I liked the caravan park at Roma, it's time to move on. Making our way south to St George, we geocached our way to Surat. While here, it was snack o'clock. Nice little town, it's got a bit going for it. As we were nearing St George, the weather changed. The wind picked up to +50kph gusts, I'm not fighting with an awning in that. So I checked into a cabin while Bren was happy to sway in his camper. Late arvo the temp quickly dropped from 23° to 12° with a chill factor of 2.5°... nope. Happy with the cabin thanks. We were going to do a sunset river cruise but heard the ol' boys in the vans behind say it's been cancelled due to weather... off to the pub then! Accommodation is hard to get from here so having to book ahead.
